Gentle Chair Yoga with Jennifer on Tuesdays (Temporary Substitute Teacher until March 31, 2020)

NOTES:  All levels welcome, dress comfortably, and bring your own mat and water to drink. Blocks and straps are available or you’re welcome to bring your own.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:  Chair yoga is a wonderful alternative for students unable to participate in a traditional yoga class due to the effects of aging, an injury or disability, or simply, don’t like practice on the floor. This class will guide you through safe and effective Chair Yoga poses to increase your flexibility, balance, and strength. You will explore breath, movement, and meditation techniques to reduce stress and improve mental clarity. All poses can be modified or adapted to suit your body’s unique needs. Some of the many benefits of Chair Yoga include:

CLASS DESCRIPTION:  Gentle Mat Yoga is perfect for novices, beginners, seasoned yogis who are resuming their practice after an illness or injury, or anyone who is simply looking for a refresher. This class will guide you through proper structural alignment and how to safely modify each pose to your body’s own unique needs. You will explore the power of your breath and learn how to link your breath with movement for greater strength and balance. You will also be introduced to basic meditation and philosophy to deepen your knowledge and practice. Gentle Mat Yoga will provide you with the important building blocks to empower you and build confidence both on and off the mat. No previous experience is necessary. Some of the many benefits of yoga include:

CLASS DESCRIPTION:  Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of exercise and martial art, which dates back over 3,000+ years. These series will focus on improving your health by integrating your body, mind, and spirit through movement, breath, and visualization. By learning to control your own body’s movement, you can quiet your mind, nourish your spirit, and strengthen your body inside and out.

This 6-week series will provide you with a dynamic, progressive skill-building program outlining the principles unique to Tai Chi. You will learn basic Tai Chi postures from the Chen Form, Qigong exercises, meditation, and self-care tips. Some of the benefits include:

CLASS DESCRIPTION:  Qigong is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques, and focused intention.

Qigong (Chi Kung) is composed of two Chinese words. The first word, Qi, is pronounced chee and means the life force or vital energy that flows through all things in the universe. The second word, Gong, pronounced gung, means accomplishment, or skill that is cultivated through steady practice. Together, Qigong (Chi Kung) means cultivating energy or working with life force energy.

Enjoy this low impact way to exercise as you learn breathing and relaxation techniques, gentle stretches, and simple easy-to-remember movements that will improve your strength, balance, and coordination. This powerful yet gentle 30 minute Gentle and Restorative Qigong class is perfect for anyone looking to stay or get healthy and increase vitality, prevent chronic illness, and relieve the symptoms of aging and disease.
